The Nou Mestalla will be a leading stadium in environmental sustainability
The design, by Fenwick Iribarren Architects, follows the principles of ‘green architecture’
After almost three months away, the Valencia CF squad returned to Mestalla this Saturday morning. The protocol was different, with safety measures put in place in accordance with LaLiga guidelines, but the same excitement to be out on the pitch was present. A training session was run with the entire group, as has been the case throughout this week, and the players were able to get reacquainted with a ground that will host several of the final 11 fixtures of the restarted season.
The dimensions of the pitch are exactly the same as at the Ciudad Deportiva, but the move to Mestalla is symbolic as another step towards something resembling normality.
The session took place amidst high heat and sunshine, and was watched by both club president Anil Murthy and director of football César Sánchez from the stands.
Valencia CF's first fixture back is less than a week away, when they play a derby against Levante UD. It is the first of five remaining encounters for which Mestalla will be the venue, albeit with games played behind closed doors.
